What is a packraft?

Packrafts are essentially a single or duo inflatable kayak. They are more stable than a kayak and durable enough to tackle decent white water but also lightweight so you can easily hike, bike and travel with them. Packrafts are a great way to learn how to paddle and safely get used to the white water environment. Most of our packrafts roll up to the size of a small sleeping bag. There are different types of pack rafts available depending on what your main use for them will be. Packrafts add a new and exciting dimension to any adventure. Hike-raft, bike-raft, explore alpine lakes, fishing, hunting, ocean, canyoneering, camping, travel and whitewater adventures.

How can I learn to packraft?

Go on your first trip with someone experienced who can teach you the basics. Start on a chill river or even lake. The video below featuring Packraft New Zealand's founder Barny Young gives you a basic overview of how to eddy hop on a river which is one of the key skills you will want to learn.
